The third generation of the Volvo V70 and XC70 was produced from 2007 to 2013. The 2008-2010 model years refer specifically to the facelifted models, which were introduced in 2007 but remained largely unchanged until 2010.

Engine:

  • The Volvo V70 2.0D and XC70 2.0D from 2008 to 2010 came equipped with a 1,987 cc inline-4 turbocharged diesel engine.
  • This engine produced 177 horsepower (131 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque at 1,750 rpm.

Transmission:

  • The V70 and XC70 were available with two transmissions:
    • A 6-speed manual gearbox was standard on most trim levels.
    • An optional 5-speed automatic transmission featuring the Geartronic system, which allowed drivers to switch between automatic and manual shifting modes, was also offered.

Fuel Economy:

  • The combined fuel economy for the V70 and XC70 2.0D with a manual transmission was around 12.7 km/l (30 mpg US) in the European test cycle.
  • With the automatic transmission, it was slightly worse at approximately 11.6 km/l (27 mpg US).

Performance:

  • The 177 horsepower diesel engine provided adequate performance for most driving conditions, but it may have felt underpowered when fully loaded or during spirited driving.

Interior and Safety Features:

  • The interior of the V70 and XC70 featured Volvo's typical emphasis on safety and comfort.
  • Standard features included dual front airbags, side airbags, window curtain airbags, and a driver knee airbag.
  • Other notable standard features included electronic stability control, anti-lock braking (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and traction control.

Exterior Design:

  • The 2008-2010 V70 and XC70 models featured a more angular and aggressive exterior design compared to their predecessors.
  • A new front bumper with larger air intakes and a distinctive grille was among the most notable visual changes.
  • Rear taillights were also redesigned, with the lights now integrated into a more pronounced spoiler at the top of the hatchback.

Dimensions:

  • Length: 4,845 mm (190.6 in)
  • Width: 1,864 mm (73.3 in) without mirrors
  • Height: 1,578 mm (62.2 in)
  • Wheelbase: 2,824 mm (111.5 in)

Curb Weights:

  • Volvo V70 2.0D: approximately 1,720 kg (3,792 lbs)
