The Volkswagen Golf Mk VII GTD is a high-performance version of the seventh-generation Golf (Mk VII) hatchback. It was produced from 2013 to 2020 and was positioned between the standard Golf TDI and the hot-hatch Golf R in terms of performance.
Engine and Performance:
The Golf Mk VII GTD is powered by a turbocharged inline-4 cylinder diesel engine, which produces 135 kW (184 horsepower) at 4,200 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm. This engine is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The GTD's performance capabilities allow it to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in around 7.9 seconds and achieve a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). Its fuel efficiency is also improved compared to the standard Golf TDI, with an estimated 4.2 liters per 100 kilometers (17.3 mpg US) for both transmissions.
Design and Features:
The exterior design of the Golf Mk VII GTD features a sportier look than its standard counterpart, including a front bumper with air inlets, side skirts, and a rear diffuser integrated into the bumper. The interior is also upgraded with sport seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and aluminum pedals.
Standard equipment includes the "Composition Touch" infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen display, navigation, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio streaming, and a driver information display. Other notable features include LED headlamps, fog lights, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a rearview camera.
Trim Levels:
During its production run, the Golf Mk VII GTD was offered in several trim levels worldwide:
- GTD: The base model with standard equipment
- GTD Edition: A mid-level variant that adds features like 17-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera
- GTD Plus: A higher-end version that includes additional amenities such as 18-inch alloy wheels, an updated infotainment system, and LED headlights with dynamic turn signals
Safety Features:
The Golf Mk VII GTD comes standard with several advanced safety features across most markets, including:
- Front, side, and curtain airbags
- Electronic stability control (ESC)
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
- Hill Start Assist (HSA)
