The Toyota Supra is a sports car produced by Japanese automaker Toyota. The first generation of the Supra was introduced in 1978 as an A60 series. It featured a 2.0-liter inline-6 engine producing 110 horsepower and a 4-speed manual transmission.
In 1981, the Supra received a mid-life update, with the introduction of the A70/A80 series. This generation featured a more aerodynamic body style, improved suspension, and an available turbocharged version of the engine, which produced 230 horsepower.
The second generation of the Supra, the A80, was introduced in 1993 and was built until 1998. It featured a 3.0-liter inline-6 engine producing 220 horsepower, a 4-speed automatic transmission, or a 6-speed manual transmission. This generation also saw the introduction of electronic driver aids such as traction control and stability control.
The A80 series Supra gained popularity worldwide due to its performance capabilities and distinctive design. It was also featured prominently in various forms of media, including the video game "Gran Turismo" and several films.
In 2002, Toyota discontinued production of the Supra, citing a lack of demand for a sports car with a inline-6 engine in a market dominated by V8-powered vehicles.
The third generation of the Supra, known as the A90 series, was introduced in 2019 after an 18-year hiatus. It features a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 engine producing 382 horsepower and a rear-biased all-wheel drive system.
