The Subaru Impreza GK and GT are compact cars produced by the Japanese automaker Subaru from 2000 to 2007. The GK series was a facelift of the original Impreza launched in 1993.
Exterior
The Impreza GK features a revised front bumper with a more aggressive design, as well as new headlamps and a redesigned rear spoiler on the GT model. The interior remains largely unchanged from the previous generation, but the dashboard and door trim have been updated to give it a fresher look.
Engine and Performance
The Impreza GK is available with a range of boxer engines: a 1.6-liter inline-four producing 108 horsepower for the base model, a 2.0-liter inline-four producing 143-152 horsepower in various trim levels (including the GT), and a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four in some markets. The latter engine is capable of delivering 215 horsepower.
Transmission and Performance
A five-speed manual transmission is standard on most models, with an optional four-speed automatic available for the lower-powered variants. Drive is sent to all four wheels via Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system.
Features and Technology
The Impreza GK comes equipped with various features depending on the trim level, including air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, a CD player, and anti-lock braking (ABS). On higher-end models, amenities such as cruise control and a sunroof are offered.
Safety Features
While not standard across all variants, side and curtain airbags became available on some Impreza GK trims for added safety. Electronic stability control is also included in the GT model.
Trim Levels
The Impreza GK offers several trim levels: base (often referred to as the "L"), a mid-level version known as the "G", the high-performance "GT" for the Japanese market, and a range of other models tailored to specific markets or preferences.
