The Mercedes-AMG GT is a high-performance sports car produced by German luxury vehicle manufacturer Mercedes-Benz's in-house performance division AMG. The first generation of the GT was launched at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2016 model, and it was designed to compete with established sports cars such as the Porsche 911.
First Generation (C190) (2015-2020)
The Mercedes-AMG GT is based on a modified version of the M176 engine block, which is also used in the S63. This compact twin-turbo V8 engine produces between 469 and 639 horsepower depending on the trim level, with a maximum torque output of up to 479 lb-ft (650 Nm). The powerplant is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The GT features an all-wheel-drive system known as 4MATIC+ that can dynamically redirect power between the front and rear axles. This allows for optimal traction and stability, especially during spirited driving on various surfaces.
