The Maserati MC20 is a mid-engined sports car produced by Italian manufacturer Maserati. It was unveiled in September 2020 and is the first car to be built on Maserati's new Nettuno platform.
Design:
The MC20 features a sleek, curvaceous design that nods to Maserati's rich racing heritage. The car has a distinctive nose with air intakes, while its long hood conceals a compact engine and mid-mounted powertrain. Rearward, the MC20 sports a distinctive spoiler and a large rear diffuser.
Engine:
The MC20 is powered by a twin-turbo V6 engine called Nettuno, which produces 621 horsepower (463 kW) at 7,500 rpm and 723 Nm of torque between 3,000 and 5,750 rpm. This engine is a lightweight unit made from aluminum and weighs around 140 kg less than a typical V8.
Performance:
With the Nettuno engine propelling it, the MC20 can accelerate from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds, making it one of the quickest accelerating production cars on sale today. The top speed is electronically limited to 199 mph (321 km/h).
Transmission and Drivetrain:
The MC20 features a lightning-fast 8-speed automatic transmission with manual mode and paddle-shift controls. This gearbox works in conjunction with an advanced all-wheel-drive system, dubbed ASR (Electronic All-Wheel Steering), which sends power to the rear wheels under normal conditions but can send up to 50% of torque to the front wheels when needed.
Interior:
Inside the MC20's cockpit is a lightweight, ergonomic layout that focuses on driver comfort and control. A compact digital instrument cluster and an intuitive infotainment system provide essential information to the driver without distraction.
Dimensions and Weight:
The MC20 has a length of 4,555 mm (179.7 in), a width of 2,002 mm (78.8 in), and a height of 1,244 mm (49.0 in). Its curb weight is around 1,670 kg (3,682 lbs).
Production:
Maserati aims to build up to 3,000 units of the MC20 per year. The company has confirmed that it will produce 2,300 units of this generation alone.
Price and Availability:
The Maserati MC20 was initially priced at around $200,000 in the United States before taxes, which is relatively high for a sports car but reflects its exceptional performance capabilities and exclusive brand status.
