Overview
The BMW 7 Series G11/G12 is a luxury full-size sedan that was produced from 2015 to 2022. The G11 and G12 models represent the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series, with the latter being an updated version of the former.
Powertrains
The 750i/750Li variants are powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine (S63B44) producing 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque in standard trim, while a high-performance variant, the M760i, produces 601 horsepower. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard.
Interior and Features
The G11/G12 interior features a range of premium materials, including leather, wood, and aluminum. Standard equipment includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen display, navigation, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Optional features include a panoramic moonroof, rear-seat entertainment, and a rear-seat comfort package with massage functions.
Safety Features
The 7 Series features a range of advanced safety systems, including Active Driving Assistant (which includes adaptive cruise control), lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. A Driver Assistance Package adds features such as active steering assist and traffic jam assistant.
Dimensions and Capacity
The G11/G12 measures 207.3 inches in length and has a wheelbase of 126.7 inches. Passenger capacity is five people, with optional third-row seating available for seven. The trunk has a capacity of around 16 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 43 cubic feet with them folded.
Performance
The G11/G12 accelerates from 0-60 mph in approximately 3.8 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 150 mph (electronically governed). Fuel economy for the standard model is estimated at up to 20 mpg combined, while the M760i variant returns around 17 mpg.
Trim Levels
The 7 Series was offered in several trim levels, including:
- 750i: The base model with a starting price of around $87,000.
- 750Li: A longer version of the sedan for those requiring more space.
- M760i: A high-performance variant featuring sport-tuned suspension and upgraded engine output.
Design Changes
The 2016 facelift (G12) updated the design with a new front grille, LED headlights, and taillights. The interior also received subtle updates, including a refreshed instrument cluster and more standard equipment on higher trims.
Discontinuation
Production of the G11/G12 generation BMW 7 Series ended in November 2022, marking its transition to the new G70 generation.
