The BMW 7 Series (G11/G12) 740d and 740Ld models from 2016 to 2022 are powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine, which produces 320 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 680 Nm of torque from 1,750 to 2,000 rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.

The 740d comes in three main trim levels: the standard 740d, the long-wheelbase 740Ld, and the high-end 'M Sport' package. The latter adds features like a sportier exhaust note, 21-inch wheels, and various interior enhancements.
