I've successfully swapped my 944 engine into a 911 body and it's been running great for years. The main thing to consider is the transmission adapter and making sure everything lines up properly. Don't be afraid to get creative with your swap!

I've done a Porsche engine swap in my '96 Boxster, swapping out the original flat-six with a 3.6L naturally aspirated motor from a later model year. It wasn't easy, but I managed to get it done for around $5k total, including a new wiring harness and some custom fabrication work. The results were well worth it - the new engine has significantly more power and torque than the original, making my Boxster much faster and more enjoyable to drive on both road and track.

I've been following this thread with great interest as I'm also considering swapping the engine in my 964 Carrera. The cost of a brand new 911 motor is certainly eye-watering, but if done correctly, it's definitely doable as a DIY project. Has anyone had experience with sourcing used or refurbished Porsche engines from reputable suppliers? I've heard that the motors from the early 993 models are quite sought after, but would they be a good fit for my car? I'd love to hear about any successes or failures, and learn from your experiences. Are there any online resources or workshops available that can provide guidance on this process?

I'm intrigued by this thread and would love to hear more about your experiences with DIY engine swaps. I've been considering swapping my 911's engine for a newer model but am worried about the complexity of the job. Have you found it to be a challenging process or are there any resources that can help guide me through the process?

I've had success with swapping an engine into my old 911. I replaced the original flat six with a newer gen unit from a donor car, it was a lot of work but well worth it in terms of power and reliability. Be sure to research and plan carefully before starting any project like this, also make sure you have a good understanding of the electrical and fuel systems or you'll be up late for days troubleshooting issues.

I've had my eye on this project for months now. I recently acquired an '07 Cayman S that I plan to swap with a 3.8L 911 engine. From what I can tell, the major hurdle will be dealing with the transmission and wiring harnesses. Has anyone had experience with swapping these systems between the two? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. I've done some research but want to make sure I'm on the right track before diving in.

I'm still getting my head around the complexity of swapping an engine in a 911. I've heard that the 964/993 swap is a nightmare due to the wiring and ECU differences, but what about the later models like the 997? Has anyone successfully swapped a modern engine into their Porsche and if so, what were the challenges they faced?

I've swapped an LS1 into my Boxster and it's been a wild ride. The biggest challenge was adapting the transmission to work with the new engine, but it's worth it for the added power and custom feel. Anyone else have experience with engine swaps?

I've completed a 3.8L Boxer swap into my 986 C2 with excellent results. Key was accurate mounts and timing setup - saved me about $4k over buying a new engine. Would love to see more DIY guides on this topic.

I'm interested in swapping the engine of my '92 968 with something more modern. Has anyone done this before? What are some things I should consider and potential hurdles to expect? Are there any specific engines that would be a good fit for this car? I've heard of people using 996 or Cayman engines, but not sure if they'd bolt right up. Looking forward to hearing from others who may have experience with similar projects.

I've swapped my 968's M44 engine with an early 911's 2.0L flat six, it was a massive undertaking but the end result is totally worth it, the added power and torque have transformed the driving experience, however I did encounter some difficulties with fitting the custom intake manifold, anyone else have similar issues?

I've successfully swapped an LS1 into my 986 Boxster with minimal modifications to the chassis and electrical systems. However, I did have to fabricate a custom intake manifold and tune the engine's computer to get it running smoothly. Worth every penny!

I've been following this thread with great interest and I have to say that I'm impressed by the level of expertise on display. As a Porsche enthusiast who's always looking for ways to breathe new life into my 911, I'm seriously considering attempting a DIY engine swap. From what I can gather from your posts, it seems like the biggest challenge will be sourcing the right parts and navigating the complexities of engine management. Has anyone successfully swapped in an RS-style motor without breaking the bank? I'd love to hear about their experiences and any tips they might have for a novice like myself. I'm particularly interested in hearing about the importance of matching the donor car's transmission to the new engine, as well as any potential issues with the cooling system. Can someone please provide some insight into this aspect of the swap?

I've had a lot of experience with engine swaps in my past, but I have to say that attempting one on a Porsche can be daunting. The complexity of the engine management system and the precision required for the fitment make it a project best suited for experienced mechanics. That being said, if you're up for the challenge, there are some great resources available online. Has anyone else here done a DIY engine swap in their Porsche? What were your experiences like?

I'm really interested in swapping my engine but I'm not sure if it's feasible. Can anyone who has done this before give some advice on what to expect and what kind of modifications are required? I've heard that the 911 engines can be difficult to swap due to their unique mounting system, so I'd love to hear from someone with experience in this area. Has anyone used any aftermarket engine mounts or had to modify the original ones to make the swap work smoothly? And how do you deal with the wiring and electrical systems - are there any special considerations that need to be taken into account? I'm also curious about what kind of performance gains can be expected from swapping in a more powerful engine. Are there any specific engines that are well-suited for swaps or would anyone recommend using a different make altogether?

I'm not going to recommend swapping an engine in your Porsche unless it's absolutely necessary, but if you're dead set on doing it I'd suggest starting with a thorough understanding of the differences between the engines and what modifications are required. The 9A1 is a great swap for older air-cooled Porsches as it provides a significant power increase without altering the exterior look of your car. However, fitting the M96/M97 or M50/52 engines into the newer water-cooled models can be much more involved and requires serious knowledge of engine management systems and wiring. It's also worth noting that warranty-wise you're probably going to void it doing a swap like this so just remember that before you get started.

I'm excited to see people attempting engine swaps in their Porsches, but I have to caution that it's not just a matter of dropping in a new motor - Porsche's electronics and software can be notoriously finicky. Has anyone successfully swapped an engine in a 911 or Boxster?

I'm a bit skeptical about attempting a DIY engine swap on my Porsche. I've heard horror stories about people messing up the wiring harness and ending up with a garage full of parts that don't fit together right. Has anyone out there successfully swapped engines in their 911 or Boxster? What were some of the major challenges you faced, and what advice would you give to someone looking to tackle this project themselves?

I'm intrigued by this thread but have to admit I've never attempted a swap in one of my Porsches. A friend's experience with swapping an RSK engine into his Carrera seems like a wild ride. I've been fascinated by the idea of swapping engines in my Porsche for years, but it's daunting with so many complexities involved. I was wondering if anyone has successfully done a DIY engine swap and can share their experience, including any challenges they faced and how they overcame them. Specifically, I'm interested in learning about the process of sourcing a suitable donor engine, adapting it to fit my existing transmission and wiring, and dealing with any necessary modifications to the cooling system or other ancillary components. Has anyone done a similar swap from a naturally aspirated engine to a turbocharged one? How much time and money did they spend on the project, and were there any unexpected costs or headaches that arose along the way? Any insight into this process would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have any recommendations for resources or guidance materials that might help make the swap more straightforward.
