Love my RCZ, but it's starting to make some strange noises...

I've had my RCZ since 2012 and have loved it to bits, but recently I've started to hear some unusual noises coming from the engine. It's a high-pitched whining sound that seems to be getting louder with each passing day. Anyone else experienced something similar? Is this a common issue or am I just being paranoid?
