Troubleshooting issues with the 4MATIC system in my G55 AMG

I'm experiencing intermittent issues with my 2015 G55 AMG's 4MATIC system and was hoping for some advice on how to troubleshoot the problem. Specifically, I've noticed that sometimes the system doesn't engage properly when I switch to AWD mode, or it engages unexpectedly in FWD mode.
