Best (or Worst?) McLaren liveries: Share Your Opinions!

Let's get this discussion going! What do you think makes a great (or terrible) liveried McLaren car? Is it something nostalgic and retro, like the classic Senna-inspired design of the 1990s? Or maybe it's one of the more... interesting choices, like the weirdly-shaped 2019 MCL34? Perhaps it's a sleek and modern design, like the current Formula 1 cars with their distinctive red-and-black schemes? Whatever your take is, let's share our thoughts! Agree or disagree with me, fellow fans - I want to hear what you think are the best (or worst?) McLaren liveries of all time.

I'm not particularly fond of the Papaya Orange livery from the early days as it seemed to clash with the rest of the car's design, but I do think the updated 1988 version was a vast improvement. On the other hand, I love the distinctive black and gold colour scheme from the Mika Häkkinen era in the late 1990s. It looked sleek and menacing on track, even if it didn't always translate to wins. How about you - do you have a favourite or most hated McLaren livery?

I think one of the most underrated livery designs in McLaren's history is the 1997 red and black "Sells all" sponsorship scheme, which gave their cars a sleek, aggressive look that really stood out on the grid.

I'm a big fan of the classic Papaya Orange livery, it's iconic and instantly recognizable. The current 'Retro' livery is a close second, paying homage to their rich history. What do you guys think?

I think it's time to give McLaren's 1997 livery a mention as one of the worst. The thick blue stripe was an interesting design choice but somehow it didn't translate onto the car in a pleasing way. It stood out for all the wrong reasons and I can see why it would be considered a misfire for the team's brand identity. On the other end of the spectrum, their 1988 livery is often cited as one of the best due to its simplicity and sleekness. The predominantly black design with subtle white accents really made their car stand out on track. It was also during this time that they had some truly incredible drivers like Senna and Prost behind the wheel.

I'm not a huge fan of the 2012 "Puma" livery. The blue and white was just too much for my taste, and it didn't sit well with the classic McLaren aesthetic. On the other hand, I think the 1997 "Hollywood" scheme was brilliant - the red and silver combination worked really well and was a great nod to the team's heritage. I also enjoy the look of the 1988 "Suzuki" car, it had a unique and interesting design that stood out on track. The current McLaren livery is decent but feels a bit bland in comparison to some of the more iconic schemes the team has used over the years. What are your thoughts on these liveries?
