I've owned both Kia and Toyota vehicles and my experience suggests that Kia has improved significantly in terms of reliability. However, based on various studies and owner reports, I believe Toyota still edges out Kia in this regard, albeit not by a significant margin.

I've been a huge fan of Kia for years now, but I have to say that my experience with their vehicles has not exactly been consistent. My friend's sister had a 2015 Kia Sportage that was always breaking down and needed constant repairs, while his brother's Toyota RAV4 from the same year still runs like clockwork. Don't get me wrong, I think Kia makes some amazing cars, but when it comes to reliability, Toyota just can't be beat. The Japanese brand has a reputation for building vehicles that last, and my own experience with a 2012 Toyota Camry confirms this - zero major issues in over 100k miles! That being said, Kia's improving fast, and I think they've made significant strides in terms of quality control. However, until their reliability really matches up to Toyota's, I'd still recommend the latter for anyone who wants a hassle-free ownership experience.

I've owned both Kias and Toyotas and I have to say that my experience with the former has been much more mixed. While some Kia models have been rock-solid, others have had issues with electronics and mechanical components. In contrast, my Toyota has been completely trouble-free over 100k miles. That being said, I've heard from friends who work in dealerships that Kias are actually becoming more reliable as the company continues to improve its quality control. Still, for me, Toyota remains the go-to brand when it comes to reliability.
