I've had my GMC Sierra 2500HD for 3 years now and I'm really impressed with how reliable it has been. However, I did have to replace the timing chain at around 80k miles, which was a bit of an issue. The dealership wanted $2k just for the part, but I managed to find one online for half that price. My mechanic also told me that the oil changes are pretty straightforward and can be done yourself if you're comfortable with a little engine work. Overall, my experience has been positive, but it's always good to know what you might need to do in advance.

I recently purchased my first GMC vehicle, a Sierra 1500, and I've been doing some research on maintenance and repair costs. According to various sources, GMC vehicles tend to be relatively reliable, but like any vehicle, they still require regular upkeep to keep them running smoothly.
Has anyone else out there had experience with the Sierra 1500 or other GMC models? What kind of maintenance have you done and what are some common issues that you've encountered?
I'd also appreciate any advice on budgeting for repairs and maintenance. I know some people swear by oil changes every 5,000 miles, while others recommend waiting until the recommended interval.
Are there any specific tools or equipment that GMC recommends using to perform routine maintenance? Should I be considering a maintenance contract or warranty extension?
Any input or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I've had my 2015 Sierra 1500 for over 6 years now and I have to say that the maintenance costs are surprisingly reasonable. The recommended oil changes every 7,500 miles have been a breeze, and I've never had to replace any of the major components such as the engine or transmission. However, I did have to replace the water pump at around 80,000 miles which was still covered under warranty. Overall, I'm very happy with the reliability and maintenance costs of my GMC Sierra.
