Is the Ferrari California a Good First Car for a Ferrari Enthusiast?

As an aspiring Ferrari owner, I'm torn between saving up for a brand new Prancing Horse and settling for something more practical - like the Ferrari California. I've been dreaming of owning a Ferrari since I was a kid, but my bank account isn't quite there yet. Does anyone think this older model would be a good stepping stone to bigger and better things?
