Maintenance costs for the G11/G12 - is it worth the upgrade?

As we consider upgrading to the G11/G12 E-class or S-Class, I'm curious to know about maintenance costs for these vehicles compared to our trusty BMW's. Are the premium brands just that - more expensive? Has anyone had experience with repairs or replacement parts for their G11/G12?
