Maintenance costs of owning an E38

As a proud owner of an E38 BMW, I'm starting to get hit with some hefty maintenance bills. Has anyone else out there had similar experiences or can share their knowledge on what to expect in terms of costs for things like timing chain replacements, transmission overhauls, and other common wear-and-tear items?
