Help Me Troubleshoot This Weird Transmission Problem

I've got a '05 E90 with a weird transmission problem. Car surges when accelerating from around 30-40 mph, hesitates and then jumps forward. This happens consistently on both upshifts and downshifts. Has anyone else experienced this issue or know of any common causes? Trying to rule out any obvious culprits before heading to the dealer.
